Michigan Hunting Vacations with your Keystone Travel Trailer

A hunting vacation in the Michigan wilderness with your Keystone travel trailer is an adventure even the least experienced outdoorsman will treasure for a lifetime. The more than 50,000 acres found within the Allegan state game area are extremely popular with hikers, hunters and horseback riders and in the winter, cross country skiers and snowmobile fans. With many Canada geese, wild turkeys and whitetail deer in the dense forest of hardwoods, you’ll find hunters who have come from all over the midwest to spend a few days at Allegan. With extensive horseback riding trails and a well developed Equestrian Trail System too, the region is made for quiet reflection and recreation.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources offers two primitive campgrounds, Ely Lake and Pine Point, with no hookups offered. With campsites designated for equestrians and non-equestrians, there are also group areas available with a reservation. You’ll be roughing it, however, with only vault toilets and a swimming beach at Swan Creek Pond.

If boondocking isn’t your idea of fun, especially after a long day outside, consider booking a campsite nearby at Triponds Family Camp Resort instead. It’s located only minutes from the State Forest and made for a Keystone fifth wheel or other travel trailer. Open year round, the resort offers more than 60 acres of shady forests, sunny meadows, and level campsites with full hookups for its patrons.

The site is run by a young family, the Rietemas, and features many family themed activities throughout the year. Amenities at Triponds include 56 water and electric sites and 48 full hookup campsites, along with a general store that sells bait, ice and firewood. You’ll also find a swimming pool, free WiFi, laundry facilities, and a spring fed fishing pond. Check out their Fall Festivals, one on the weekend of September 20-22, and the other on September 27-29. Activities will include a haunted hayride, a pumpkin carving contest and crafts. If your pumpkin wins the prize-you win a free weekend of camping in October!
